Lost Lantern Whiskey is an award-winning independent bottler specializing in unique and distinctive whiskies sourced from across the United States. Founded by Nora Ganley-Roper and Adam “Apolon” Polonski, they are whiskey nerds on a mission: to shine a light on the independent spirit and to celebrate the world of American whiskey.

 

Lost Lantern travels extensively to hand-select each barrel for their unique spirits. Inspired by Scottish traditions, they’ve pioneered an American independent bottling model, exploring new flavors and pushing the boundaries of American whiskey. In 2023, they were named U.S. Independent Bottler of the Year at the Icons of Whisky Awards in Kentucky. Later that year, they won the entire thing as the global award winner: 2023 Independent Bottler of the Year

 

With a commitment to showcasing exceptional blends, bourbons, single malts and single casks, Lost Lantern collaborates closely with distilleries, curating expertly blended, one-of-a-kind expressions that redefine the whiskey landscape.

 

We’re here for them 🥃! We worked with Nora and Apolon to build out their email marketing platform, test some early budgets on Paid Ads (social media marketing, IG, FB ads), set up their Paid Search campaigns (Google Ads), create some new analytics dashboards in Google Analytics (GA4) and Google Looker Studio, and build out their ecommerce infrastructure. 

Iterative Approach With Paid Ads

 

Using Paid Social and Paid Search campaigns, we worked with Lost Lantern to reach new customers, introducing their range of products to both traditional and new audiences with Holiday Gift Guides. The goal was to capitalize on increased customer interest and shopping habits during peak seasons.

 

With this iterative approach, we learned that Lost Lantern’s customer is highly qualified and deeply passionate about whiskey. Our strategy was to highlight limited releases, educating newer customers to single casks, emphasizing their one-of-kind products with limited batches of new single casks, new distilleries and new series. 

 

Using Meta Ads and Google Ads, our goal was to increase reach and bring more awareness to Lost Lantern’s story as a new independent bottler. We drove traffic from paid social to their website, creating new Gift Guide collections. In addition, we built out an Alpha-Beta campaign structure for Google Ads. 

 

Our goals was to showcase Lost Lantern’s whiskies to new audiences and see if we could increase brand recognition for this new company. The results are below:

 

  • Branded Search click-through rates of 23.5%
  • Non-Branded Search CTR’s of 4.89%
  • Google Ads drove 19% of traffic year-over-year
  • 93% of which were new visitors to the site.

Testing Email & Customer Acquisition

 

By encouraging people to sign up for the email newsletter to receive exclusive early access to new releases, we created a sense of urgency and exclusivity. Email subscribers received access before the public, with special firewall access links embedded in the emails. 

 

We also addressed the lack of education around American whiskey by encouraging people to sign up for the Lost Lantern email newsletter. Subscribers received industry news and learned about the exciting world of American whiskey, including new techniques and innovative ideas from Lost Lantern’s partner distilleries. Result below: 

 

  • Grew Email Audience List 80% Year-over-Year
  • Avg Cost Per Lead ($2.53) per email subscriber 
  • Avg Open Rate of 50%+
