All local. All-natural.

Originally started in 1931, Champlain Valley Apiaries is a third-generation, family-owned beekeeping business that has been producing locally-sourced and organically made honey for over 90 years. Not only do they produce both liquid and naturally crystallized honey, but they also sell a range of products like candles, soaps, and teas and coffees. They also sell a variety of sample packs and gift packages. Their mission as a company, along with producing high-quality honey, is to promote sustainable agriculture and to inform the public of the importance of bees and their vital role in the food system.

Champlain Valley Apiaries came to BootstrapVT with the goal of bringing a local Vermont company into the 21st century. This included things like improving their e-commerce marketing, diversifying their audience, and accumulating more followers on their social media platforms.

A New Generation of Customers

BootstrapVT started by designing a new email newsletter for Champlain Valley Apiaries (CVA) on Mailchimp. The business objective was to breathe new life into their e-commerce business. We optimized all images and pages on their website for Search Engine Optimization (on-page SEO). In addition, we evolved their catalog business to a digital format so that consumers would be able to quickly and efficiently browse all CVA products online, and complete their purchases without ever having to leave the comfort of their home.

We also took this as an opportunity to create some branded video content for their website. We wanted to share CVA’s mission and values. We worked alongside the crew, collecting honey, going out in the fields and made two videos for them highlighting their authority and experience as beekeepers (see below).

Content Creation At Scale

Using Mailchimp’s email platform, BootstrapVT created a series of email newsletters and content pieces to engage CVA’s older demographic. These emails included Recipes, Notes from the Field, Welcome to the Hive, and Product highlights. In the first month, we increased CVA’s e-commerce revenue by 25%. We continued the momentum for the rest of the year, focusing on e-commerce via newsletters and social media, to increase their year-over-year revenue by 20%.
