Redefining Maple With A Focus on Food & Flavors


Runamok is a family-owned, Vermont based company that started with a foundation of premium, organic maple syrup and has expanded to an array of maple and honey-based products. Located along the western slopes of Mount Mansfield in Northern Vermont, Runamok was started in 2009 as Thunder Basin Maple Works by husband and wife team Eric and Laura Sorkin.


Runamok spent the first 6 years of their business focused on bulk maple syrup sales before launching their signature collection of infused, smoked and barrel-aged syrup. After debuting their unique syrups at the Fancy Food Show in New York City, Runamok Maple landed features in major news publications like Oprah Magazine, The New York Times, Bon Appétit, Saveur and more. As a result, Runamok’s sales took off, and Eric and Laura saw the need to bring in an expert to develop a strong digital marketing strategy.


In 2016, Runamok hired BootstrapVT to develop their marketing strategy and build out a scalable multi-channel ‘go-to-market’ strategy that could keep up with their rapidly growing business. BootstrapVT continues to work with Runamok today, leading email, social and digital marketing strategy for the company.

We recognized that the new assortment of Runamok products was going to resonate with a very different consumer than historical maple syrup buyers. We defined this new audience as being environmentally-conscious, family-focused, co-op shoppers and foodies who wanted to buy products with a strong brand story. With this new brand vision in place, we built out a full social, email and digital content marketing plan anchored by original imagery, unique ‘foodie’ recipes, and storytelling with a Vermont-twist.
